Expanding on a thought I had earlier in regards to a question on fantasy:
There are two kinds of experts. There is being an expert the same way that a vehicle mechanic is an expert on cars.
And then there's being an expert the way that a double PhD holder in cultural and gender studies is an expert in the portrayal of bigender fluidity in Showa-era Japanese homoerotic underground manga.
We tend to assume that "expert" means the second, because the first meaning suggests something that we could easily achieve.
And if we haven't achieved the first... then it is possible that we have not been paying sufficient attention.
