Loss leaders in rants

The price of food has been skyrocketing lately. It's gotten so high that the only items I can buy are the ones on sale... you know, the ones they advertise at a deep discount to get you into the store.

The hard part is to NOT get anything else. Today I bought only sale items. One, a package of frozen mashed turnips USED to cost $1.19! NOW it's $2.99 before the sale price of 2/$4. Still expensive, but SO tasty.

One of my go-to meals is pasta with canned diced tomatoes and grated cheese. I found the diced tomatoes @ 4/$5. I had gotten some last week at that price also - different brand. AND the store had organic pasta @ 2/$3! Also a good price.

I bought some more food at a local discount store.

Gotta keep track of those rising prices!

The amount of my weekly shopping keeps going up too. I had to stop offering food as part of the price for daycare last year, it was just too expensive. X

Maybe the parents can rotate snack purchases?

It was all sorted last year. Parents now either provide meals our pay for them. X

I leave myself open for surprises. I recently found grilled fish (frozen, Groton's) at the discount store. I added it to the pasta/tomato dish I usually make. It worked out very nicely.
