Craving... in Flash

I've been thinking about cravings lately. There was a table full of individually wrapped KwikStar muffins by the checkout the other day. KwikStar has their own bakery and they make luscious muffins in a whole range of flavors. They were seventy nine cents.

I told the checkout person that it had been a year since I'd had sugar or wheat. Without missing a beat, she said, "And I bet you feel really good, don't you?"

I pretty much had to agree with her.

I've also been imagining the taste and feel of a really cold diet Pepsi in my mouth. It's been more than a year since I've had one of them. They come from vending machines and it's been a year since I've patronized a vending machine.

I am so virtuous I can hardly stand it.

Good for you! Whenever I hear in a diet program that when people have cravings they're not for broccoli, I beg to differ. I crave cauliflower and used to crave broccoli. Of course, I steam the flowerets and dip them into hummus... but still I prefer the veggies over chips/bread with hummus... I keep trying to stop eating wheat... but to no avail.

You've been doing really well. Me, not so much.

Funny thing. I don't think it's done me any good at all. I mean physically. The only thing is it's made decision making easier. I know what I 'can' or 'cannot' eat.
I did eat part of a box of Girl Scout cookies and they were terrible - but once I got going I had to finish them.
The library has two books on the 5-2 diet - where you fast or limit foods on two non-consecutive days a week and then eat what you want the other five. I might get one of those books.
I was kind of sick over the weekend and didn't eat much. I thought I'd weigh myself but I can't find my scale.

Last time I got under 160 lbs which was quite a while ago I was shocked at the way my face looked. Old and haggard and not me. Of course I look like that now anyway but .....

There is no happy ending. But we need to go forward.
So eat what you want to eat - or not eat - it doesn't matter.

Hi!! I'm tickled to have found you. I've been craving eggrolls lately. I tried to get some after class the other night but the restaurant was closed. I had toast instead. Not as satisifying I'm afraid.

I've learned in my attempts that I am better doing something than NOT doing something and it's easier for me to NOT do something AT ALL, then to be moderate.

And I'm lazy.

Wow you are virtuous! I hardly ever drink cola but I do crave sweet things. I usually manage to go all day without sugar but in the evening when watching TV I really crave a treat. I did once manage to go a year without eating any sweet things and it made no difference to my weight at all so I thought I may as well allow myself a little treat in the evenings.

Last year I gave up fat, I don't even allow myself butter on a baked potato but again it has made no difference to my weight.

I tried to give up wheat once to see if that helped with my migraines, but it was so much hassle finding wheat free food, especially when I live in the country and often rely on my husband for shopping!

Taking of cravings it's Easter next weekend so I will allow myself some chocolate, that's the one thing I would hate to give up but I do limit myself to special occasions.

Hi Sabrina-Belle, just commenting here even though you don't know me. I want to say that after I (mostly) gave up wheat, my migraines stopped. I still occasionally get headaches, but not migraines anymore, ever. As for fat, there is so much research coming out that says fat is not unhealthy (plant and animal fats) (e.g. http://www.express.co.uk/news/health/438600/Eating-fat-is-good-for-you-Doctors-change-their-minds-after-40-years) ... think of our ancestors, who always cooked in lard and butter and felt the fat was the best part of the meat! It wasn't till the 80s or so that obesity became a problem, when lowfat became popular. And in terms of chocolate, dark chocolate is actually healthy! so you can splurge on that! :)

Hi Charis, Thanks for your comments. Perhaps I should try again to go wheat free and see what happens. The article about fat is very interesting. I saw a TV programme a little while ago that seemed to show that it's eating fat and sugar at the same time that is bad as in ice cream or cream cakes but each on it's own is OK. Dark chocolate is my favourite king, so that's good news!

You ARE virtuous... I'm so amazed at your self-discipline. I strive DAILY for that level of commitment. And you're not even convinced of the benefits... it's not fair!! :D

I agree that when people lose weight, they tend to look significantly older. Face fat, the natural botox! :)

It reads like you are doing better than I am, good for you …

I have that stuff tastes really sweet to me that never used to. I haven't given up wheat or sugar totally but I don't eat much. Even diet soda tastes way too sweet.
