Smart people of the internet, I need a new computer. I think I am pretty sold on going with a desktop vs laptop. No sense in two, and I really need my computer to WORK. I run a handful of programs at the same time (nothing huge, but I do need Skype to work while I have mutiple Excel books, doc files, etc open, AND be able to work online). Processing, that's the word I want, right? I forget how to talk computer but I need one that WORKS. I want to be able to access youtube without needing to close my files and then never switch tabs. I'd love to be able to properly WORK.

Also, I'm investing in a second screen along with said desktop, so recommendations there help too.

Go go gadget, community!

Let me ask Josh.

I built my last two computers and my first thought was about that, not about "brands". For starters, avoid windows 8 like the plague.

I'd build you one if you were local.

WHY ARENT YOU LOCAL.

Yeaaah I'm not sure I can avoid Windows 8 unless I go Linux. Thoughts?

Good luck finding a "preinstalled" or prebuilt system that still uses windows 7.

This may even be more overpowered than what you need. I have windows 7 professional, because it has certain nuances that I prefer, but for most people, home is fine. 8 gigs of RAM is more than you'll need, and you don't even need a decent video card, just any discrete card will do since you don't game. Lemme see if I can find something cheaper.

Huh. My first look was the best bet. Unless you want even more bling.

Man, looking at computers gives me such a nerd-on.
