We've had torrential rains this week. A day that the temps got into the 70s and then fell throughout the day until the big drop which brought thunderstorms, tornado watches and warnings. The dump of rain arrived at noon and I was sure that if the creek had risen it would be down by the time I went home. I was wrong so had to turn around and go the other way home. That was not much better and the torrent of rain and wrecked havoc on the gravel road leaving debris and huge washed out gullies going across the road. The culverts haven't been cleaned out in a very long time and when the volume of water hit them the force of the water rerouted around the culverts which made wash outs along sides of the culverts. It was a mess and the roads are still horrible. I really hope they grade the road properly this week but not holding my breath. The grader did have to fix the culvert at the bottom of the hill. I thought I might get stuck in the loose mess. Once I got through that mess the next event was crossing the road where two ponds overflowed and another stopped up culvert. The water was up to the running boards and I had to bring daughter and owen across since the water was so deep. she left her car at dad's and then later that evening I took her up to get it.
Then after the storms came the cold. Brrrrr. Wet and cold doesn't make for a pleasant anything. Finally yesterday the temps finally got to the mid 50s and the sun was shining. It was a very welcome change for all of us, including not just us humans, but all the critters too.
Baby shower this afternoon for my niece. I bought her some things a few weeks ago and was able to make her 3 changing pads/mats, a nursing cover, and a couple of bibs. I have some fabric ordered to make her another cover but may wait until I know she actually will continue the breastfeeding idea. I know several young mothers who intend to breast feed, but things don't work out.
Sister and I had a girls afternoon yesterday. She got her hair colored and cut and I got my hair cut too. Course to we went to my daughter and my SIL (same age as daughter) came up and we all laughed and had a good time. My SIL is a trip and you wonder how she holds down a job. Not sure she is really that naïve or just putting on for the attention but good grief she makes for some great entertainment.
I need to get the day started and get a shower and ready for church. I'm so happy that sister, BIL, and Jack are going to attend services where my brother and SIL attend. Sister is worried about Jack's behavior but I am betting he will do just fine since he loves his uncle, aunt, and their whole family. I'm just glad they are giving it a try with Jack.
Time to end this and hope everyone has a great day and week ahead.
God Bless
