And today I learnt... in The irresistible urge to rant, riff and ramble

Today was my first real sparring match in a decade, and the master put me up against a black belt due to the weight and reach advantage I'd have against anyone else.

So.

  1. My ability to pressure my opponent remains undiminished. I made him back up all the way to the wall before he realised he'd been moving away.

  2. My hand and foot coordination timings are still there. I hit him with a slide in-flicker jab- side thrust combo that he never saw coming.

  3. My counter timings are still excellent: I wove away from a turning kick and hit him with my own,and when it landed on his chest on the inside of his arm it felt like a long- forgotten symphony.

I can't wait for the next round.
