The library opened for curbside service on Monday. Actually we spent Monday getting organized - we pulled about 700 books for approximately 200 customers, bagged them, and called each customer to let them know we are following CDC guidelines which means books need to be quarantined for 24 hours once we’ve handled them, so the books are available for pickup the following day.
Tuesday people started showing up to pick up their books. We also got our email notifications fixed so we don’t have to call patrons to let them know holds have arrived, which is an enormous relief because that was awkward and awful. Only a few people tried to enter the building (despite copious signage stating that the building is still closed and they need to call the posted phone number to have their holds brought out of the building). I learned how to do the book drop, and started to feel like a real librarian.
Today we really felt organized. We’ve got a system in place to pull holds, quarantine books, process incoming and outgoing requests, etc. The flow of traffic is starting to even out too, so it wasn’t quite as crazy as it was yesterday. Still, it was a long freaking day.
I’m off tomorrow and Friday, and then back at it on Saturday - but we’re only open 12-4 on Saturday, so that shouldn’t be too bad.
But I am bone tired. My feet hurt, and I’m exhausted. I hope tomorrow I can relax…
