As of right now, school is still on for tomorrow. We will see what happens in the next few hours. New York has not been as willing to close schools as some states. The mayor of New York City has said they are planning to keep schools open as long as possible. There is concern about health care workers having to miss work to care for their kids, which makes sense. I have been reading the news from Italy, and their health care system has been very strained with the virus. Although I worry about kids spreading the virus.

It is sad for Timmy and Kayla that this is happening during their senior year. I don’t know if they will be able to get in any softball or baseball this year. They could play in a league this summer, if possible, so they would not totally miss out. The prom is scheduled for the end of May and graduation for the end of June. Maybe we could hold something later in the summer if we can’t hold those events at the scheduled times. Ball games wouldn’t start for a month and the other events are months away, so I guess there’s no sense worrying about them now.

We have been trying to practice social distancing. Fortunately the weather was nice this weekend and we were able to spend a lot of time outside. I have been reading a book about people stranded in a hotel during a snowstorm. Two years ago I stayed at a hotel in the Catskills for a family reunion. The hotel in this book reminds me of that hotel. We were there in the summer, so didn’t get snowed in. When I was a kid I used to read Alfred Hitchcock stories for young readers. They were very old-fashioned stories, and very creepy. This book sort of reminds me of those stories.
