the old bugger gets his valve fixed on wednesday, he went to hospital last week. peter and i drove up to christchurch yesterday to visit him. apparently i can’t just walk away from a hospital without getting a migraine. i think i’m just tired. half-way back to the car i started feeling weird. c’mon, that’s just fucking unnecessary.
anyway. his bed’s next to a window that looks out over a park so the old rooster is perched in his bed watching people crash those rentable electric scooters, ducking when pigeons zoom past the window and perving at the young ladies jogging around hagley park. when i put my glasses back on to examine one such specimen he noticed and piped up with “oh, i see what you put your glasses on for. she’s got her running shorts on though, you’d never catch her,” then laughs away to himself. it was good to see him in such a good mood. i think he’d convinced himself that he’d die before they sorted his heart out. “every day above ground is a good day” is a favourite saying of his, yet he only says it on the good days. so i haven’t heard it for a while except for half a dozen times yesterday.
i sowed the seeds last week that we were going to sow in the weekend. beetroot, carrots, red onions and the last of the broad beans. oh. that’s something i forgot to get yesterday. i’m pretty sure after the last infusion i said i wasn’t going to do errands after infusions but tomorrow i need to get some more stakes for the next two rows of broad beans. i weeded out around the peas and beans on saturday and the knee pads i got wouldn’t stay strapped on. uh, yes. knee pads. zooming around in the dirt on your knees for a few hours gets painful. but also, yes, knee pads. ah, ha. hmm. where would you even go to get a decent set? oh, okay. a skateboard enthusiast store or an army surplus store. i don’t think ashburton has either of these.
i got some different types of pumpkin seeds too. and some corn. and some flowers for the flower garden here. i’m probably going to run out of windowsill space to sprout these on. i’m also running out of enthusiasm for writing today. oh, nope. there it goes. completely out.
