This will be pre-ice storm IV (?) of the winter of 2013-2014.
I've spent a lot of time working in ways that will ensure the greatest amount of disruption for working 40 hours. Twelve hour days? Yep. High stress in getting ready for visitors that may or may not have shown up? Yep. Asking me to increase my job responsibilities when there isn't much room right now to do so? Yep. Seriously, last week was a 12 hour day followed by a 8 hour day, then day off, then 10 hour day then squeezing the rest of my job into ten hours. A little too staggered in my opinion. Just let me work four ten hour days; I think it would actually decrease my stress and better my sleep, by virtue of not having to wake up at 3am five days a week.
But the better stuff: I'm good at surprises. I took my girlfriend to "didn't realize it was take your old person to lunch day" at Grandy's. Seriously, that after church crowd is ridiculous. Should've gone with the less heralded "Vietnamese Sunday brunch" concept. After a quick refreshment of something called green almond tea which was pretty good, we hopped the light rail down to downtown, with her having no idea where I was taking her. Walked a couple of blocks....and still no idea. Then to the side of the building......and aaaaaaaaaaaah the art museum! I must be good, it only took ten foot letters to clue her in on the surprise destination. I haven't been to an art museum in years; it was really neat, especially since I don't think we hit half of it before it closed for the day. And it was free. We even walked the park they have on top of the highway downtown and was tempted to play soccer with some kids. A trolley ride later (where it BROKE DOWN 300 yards from the destination) later and my suddenly cold self got relief as we headed back home to pizza and wine. Papa Murphy's isn't too bad, now that I have an oven that is somewhat reliable. (We both love prosciutto).
(Mostly) Post Ice Storm soon.

Glitter bless you forever for plotting surprise dates. For real, there's a special place in relationship heaven for the people who still believe in the magical art of the unexpected <3
