Alex’s birthday was Monday. Three years old. So many people say “it goes so fast!” But it honestly feels like ages ago that she was a baby. But I’ll never forget that first week after she was born. She was just the sweetest thing. Her calm presence warmed all of our hearts. Made us want to be better parents to Leah. Better people in general.

Three years later despite the whining and the tantrums she still has a certain sweetness about her. She asks if you’re ok every time you sneeze. She still asks to “sit by with you” which means she wants to sit in your lap. She cries more from getting her feelings hurt than her body hurt. You really can’t stay mad at her for long because she is just such a pure little soul.

This sounds so cheesy but it’s genuinely a joy to watch her grow and learn. Leah was always ahead of the curve but Alex takes her time. You can see her little brain calculating all the odds. Figuring out the best way to go about something. And being way too hard on herself when she doesn’t get it right.

Parenting is never easy. But she really does make it a joy in so many ways. I’m glad she’s my daughter and that I get to help her grow up and become who she’s meant to be.
