Yesterday I finished reading Caesar: The Life of a Colossus. I gave it 3 stars on Goodreads. It was rather bland and hardly painted a portrait of the times but since I am somewhat unread in the particular period I did learn some new things. Overall too much battle scenes for my liking. Can't really say much good things about it.
Today I began reading Rasputin: The Untold Story. After watching the Depardieu film I become interested in his story. Today I read the first three chapters. His youth and early life are briefly glossed over but I suppose not much is known about that period of his life. we are now in the early 20th century when his fame as a... something began.
Also I finished reading Caesar on V's Android tablet. I also read parts of Rasputin on it. It's much easier reading than on this giant screen. Also the lack of distractions from the lack of the internet make you more focused on the reading.
My German is going... somewhere. Well, we are not stopping so I suppose that's good, I guess. I remember last August (or was it September) when our journey first began I thought that a year from then I would have some grasp on the language or "learned" it. Now as months are passing this looks depressingly not the case. But I feel I shouldn't stop. That if I could do this one thing... then I could move on from my current place. To change into something else. Not be so static anymore.
