And more snow. Bleh, what's new? I do have to say, though, it is pretty. There's got to be something good about this, right? We keep getting snowfall so nothing has the chance to get all gray and grody looking.
I have another veterinary shop lab (aka Orthopedics lab) tomorrow. Except, instead of plastic fake bones, I think we're being given cadaver legs. I have no idea what we're doing though. Drilling...using metal thingies. Hopefully they won't be smelly. The quarter heads we used in Dentistry last semester were really gross.
I made the possible mistake of taking a nearly 4 hour nap this afternoon. It's just such cozy sleeping weather! Plus, Aaron curled up with a book, so I'd wake up, cuddle close to him, and drift off again. So cozy! But I want to go to bed in like 2 hours so...we'll see how that goes.
I completely failed to write about my bird lab last week! It was a really wonderful, hands on lab! I got some practice restraining a cockatiel and it didn't want to rip my face off too much, which was pretty adorable. I also did a partnered physical exam on it and clipped its nails. Then we worked with some quail and did practiced some anesthetic techniques. I was super impressed by the tiny belled baby stethoscope they had for us to listen to their hearts and, if I do much work with exotics, which I hope I will, I definitely want to invest in one. I could hear so clearly! I drew blood from its jugular and got it on my first try! Woo hoo! I also intubated it, which took a few tries. I could see where I was aiming but the mouth was pretty moist so I kept missing and getting into the esophagus. I did eventually get it, though, with some assistance, so yay for that too! The final part of the lab was some radiology stuff and my group managed to see a lot of the things that were wrong with our case. I ended up having to go up and point things out for our group, which I wasn't happy about it as I hate presentations and such, but it went well and I was ok with making a fool of myself and not knowing stuff. Good progress. Plus, it was a really great learning environment and the doctor teaching us was all for just saying things enthusiastically even if they're wrong. I hope rotations are that positive.
Speaking of rotations, I've started having anxiety nightmares about them. The other day I had one where I was late for the first day, didn't have anything packed, was missing things I needed once I got there, and didn't know where to go. I anticipate many more of these types of dreams. Oh, self, calm down.
Bleh, I have a presentation for my Avian class tomorrow. It's silly. The professor does not time things well and thinks we're going to get through 6 presentations in less than an hour. With all the information he wants, I really do not think that's possible. Plus, one member of my group is at a conference, so we divvied up her slides. I'll be basically reading them because she didn't add any additional notes and I don't want to do more research myself. It'll be OK, just irritating. I'll probably have to talk a grand total of 2-3 minutes, which really isn't much. How did I manage my hour-long honors project in undergrad???
I think it's time for dinner. Last night Aaron made a wonderful creamy chicken wild rice soup and I bet it'll be even more delicious today! Mmm...soup!
