From MSNBCAnti-evolution activists have pushed a variety of measures over the last several decades, hoping to either eliminate or water down science-class curricula, though nearly all of the efforts have been struck down in the courts. The efforts nevertheless persist, even now in the 21st century, with state lawmakers weighing new science restrictions in several states.

Missouri, however, is breaking new ground. A Missouri lawmaker has proposed what ranks among the most anti-evolution legislation in recent years, which would require schools to notify parents if “the theory of evolution by natural selection” was being taught at their child’s school and give them the opportunity to opt out of the class. […]

State Rep. Rick Brattin (R), who sponsored the bill, told a local TV station last week that teaching only evolution in school was “indoctrination.”

As a Christian, I find the notion that there are those of my faith who, believing in the same God that I do, cannot manage to wrap their minds around the notion that if (S)He is the author of all creation, (S)He must also - necessarily - be the author of science........and......just maybe.....set that whole sciencey/creationy thing in motion.

I prefer to have matters of faith taught at home - certainly so if school-taught faith insists that the God of my understanding is to be limited through the teaching of creationism.

Kansas/Missouri schools definitely do NOT have permission to limit my children's understanding of God.

This is exactly why America is falling so behind the rest of the world. Jesus riding dinosaurs in texas, and evolution being taught as a theory? In a generation we will be a laughing stock.

What?, as we believers in Christ, or the unbelievers, hide from GOD?. We won't, they won't..its all known by GOD. We only fool ourselves . The scripture "Claiming themselves to be wise, They became as fools". The nation, is coming under fire ... and a hard lesson, like GOD's chosen did many times over. Who has the victory? We know the answer. Don't falter, don't fail ...full speed ahead,, GOD is the victor and to his glory.

You have fallen behind, Darkcharm. We already ARE a laughing stock. We are the well-known 'Christian' nation who are far too concerned about war mongering, creating international drama where none exists for the sake $$$ in the already well-lined pockets of the rich. The collective nose of our selectively conservative politicians are stuck so far up women's reproductive systems, they can smell our breath. These same people are desperately concerned about who is sleeping with who. Brotherly love now means letting our poor go without clothing and should dumpster-dive for their next meal because it has been deemed (for their own good) that untouched restaurant left-overs present a potential danger.

This 'Christian' nation of family values and high moral fiber have, through the courts, determined that it is well within our rights to murder teenagers walking hem at night, or because they turn their music up too high in cars. We can also shoot people in theaters for texting their babysitter to check on their sick kid.

If they aren't laughing at us by now, I would suggest that perhaps this isn't a condition exclusive to our country, but to the world.

I agree, Brakeshoe. conservative Christians (especially those in politics) are becoming as fools. But I will hang on. I have hope.

I like your perspective on the anti-evolution movement.

I've never understood that either -- how Christians can't accept that maybe...just maybe... God used evolution to carry out the creation process.

When you teach kids that something is just because "this book says so", you limit their ability to push ahead in sciences where questioning everything is how we learn new things.
