Weighty Issues in My Life

Not sure why parents reward their kids with food or use it as some sort of bargaining chip. When I was younger, if I didn't clean my plate or ask for seconds, it hurt my Grandmother's feelings. Two things you didn't want -- to hurt Grandma's feelings or to make her mad. Neither was a good thing. Not to say that our children should not be allowed to enjoy their food, but we need to teach them the food pyramid and the consequences of eating from only one or two food groups on a regular basis. Let's face it, bread and potatoes can get you in a world of trouble, especially if you are prone to weight gain. And, let's not forget about the importance of exercise. It doesn't have to be some complicated workout, but how about a walk with your friends or family? Taking a flight of stairs every now and again or participating in some athletic extracurricular activity? I say these things because I was always encouraged to be active, I was never encouraged to eat properly. Now, I am learning these things on my own. I have already lost 32 pounds and still have a way to go, but I will get there. Just wish I had realized the importance of lifelong healthy habits at the age of 10, instead of at the age of 50. 😊
