John and I got our couple of days away, it was wonderful! It did get off to a hairy start though. We were told that check-in was at 4, but if we got there earlier, someone might be there to let us in. We got there around threeish, knocked, but there was no reply, so we went and had a look around the town. Around half four we went back to the B and B, but it was still in darkness. We knocked, no reply. John, just joking, said “are you sure you’ve booked the right day?!” I’d booked it over the phone and they sent me email confirmation, which I never thought to check because we sorted it verbally. When I checked the email, it said we were booked in for MAY, not January! I was about in tears, so I got John to ring them. Obviously there was no reply, but there was a mobile number to ring. We got through to the owner and she said they were out for the day and the housekeeper was obviously running late, but we were definitely booked in for that night. Thank fuck for that!
She said they’d be about half an hour, so we went to the bookshop to buy some maps and to the pub for a pint. After we’d finally checked in, we went out for dinner, bought a bottle of wine to take back, then had baths in the enormous roll top bath.
Wednesday was a lovely day, so we decided to climb a nearby mountain. We were going to climb two peaks and drop down the steep side into the valley, a circular walk of about 8 miles. But when we got to the top of the first peak, it was really icy, so we decided to go back the way we came. We stopped off at the lake on the way back to watch the sunset.
Thursday was checkout day, we decided to come back via Llangollen, where we visited Dinas Bran, a ruined castle on a hill. But the hill had cloud on top, so there was no view at all! But it was still fun to do. We went to a cafe and bought some souvenirs before heading home.
All in all it was a lovely short break!
Rob is feeling a lot better. He’s been having regular dressing changes and hasn’t touched the wound at all. But with being short staffed at work, he’s been rushed off his feet and I think it’s suddenly caught up with him, as he’s taken today off sick. He was off yesterday (Saturday) and is off Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning, so he’s going to get a decent break to put his feet up and relax a bit.
Yesterday we decided to use the birthday present that dad bought me and the girls, and go to an escape room. I managed to persuade Rob to come, and we all really enjoyed it! Bel was the star of the show, there were lots of ciphers which she got really quickly. Even when we got the breakdown at the end, the host was impressed at how quickly we’d solved it, but obviously we had to solve all the clues to finish it completely. I’d love to do it again!
Rob then took us a new Mexican place that was run by a friend of a friend. He’s bold as brass though, he approached the manager, told him who their mutual friend was, then asked if he could see the kitchen! I don’t know who he gets his hutzpah from as John and I certainly aren’t like that.

Sounds like you’ve had a lovely week off, I’m glad you managed to use your present in the end :-) that was a worrying start to your break, though!

Dinas Bran looks amazing! Shame there wasn't a view but I bet it was amazing up there. Glad you had such a good time :)
