.... is that I’m building my first kit guitar. Which is kind of awesome, also one more thing to distract me away from all the things I should be doing. I like the idea of making a custom guitar to my own spec - would buy the neck in, mind you, since there is no way I would trust myself to get that right - but first I need to practice on a crappy kit guitar from the interwebs.

The first time around is not cheap because you’re buying tools, but I am at least trying to buy ones that are things I can use elsewhere. Some of the tools I’ve got are more or less specialist luthier’s tools for stuff like fret levelling/profiling, but most of them can be happily used elsewhere.

It’s nice. Progress is very very slow and of course I’m making all the idiot mistakes that you’re going to make first time around. If the body and fretwork turns out nice in the end I may upgrade the hardware so that it’s at least a presentable, useable guitar, otherwise I’ll slap on the abysmal stuff it came with onto the guitar and hang it on the wall someplace.

Anyhow… the neck I have sanded and stained in sexy sexy purples. There will be a llama llogo on the headstock because of course there will be a llama llogo on the headstock.

Yes.

In less than two weeks time we will be in San Francisco and mostly half-dead trying to pretend that it’s about a quarter past eight when our bodies think it’s gone one am.

Other than that, my rib, I think, is improving but I still don’t dare run or lift weights, not this close to holiday.

Work is work. I have time booked in with our team leader to talk about my role tomorrow. This will be as fun as it sounds, no doubt.

Meh. Llamas, come what may, will remain cool.
