The days are canine now
Heat striking slowly
Surrounding like a vortex
Clawing at my skin
Doing what I have to do
Because what I want to do
Is not available
Where I want to be
Is not here
How I want to be
Is not entirely feasible
When I want to be there
Is not entirely plausible
But that’s life, isn’t it?
What I wouldn’t give
Some days
To venture into the wilderness
Into the unknown
And never return
It would be easier
To do what I have to do
On nature’s terms
Than on yours
I did my time and then some
How much more could you possibly need?
