I finally got the motivation to clean the living room side of the basement yesterday. All the boxes and garbage shipped out, stuff put away, the floors swept and the carpet vacuumed. I still have more to go with the book case and the DVD shelves to be reorganized but that should not take me long tonight.
In the process there are four boxes of books to go to the library for donation. I pulled them off the shelves some 18 months ago when we renovated the basement for my daughter's room and my wife saw fit to do NOTHING with them. Yesterday I carried them up and they are sitting in the living room. I still have three large totes of books that have to go but they need to be put in smaller boxes to be brought for donation.
On Friday, I'm taking a ride to Long Island to go to the Strat-O-Matic opening day for baseball. It's when the new baseball game cards come out. I've been playing and collecting these cards since 1976 and I have always wanted to go to opening day. Almost went last year and this year I decided I was going. Took the day off from work and it will be an adventure! I get the cards for myself and my nephew as his Christmas gift (his request).
I am also getting the reissued 1973 set. This season was a couple of years before I got into baseball but many of my childhood heroes are in this set. To get ready I'm reading the book Swinging '73 - Baseball's wildest season by Matthew Silverman. It's been a real enjoyable read and I highly recommend it to any baseball fan. I remember my father won a bet at work about the Mets going to the world series and he bought a new front door with the winnings.
Finally, in cleaning the basement I found the video from my sister's wedding in 1989. I scanned through it but saw my uncle, father and grandmother in it. They have all since passed and it was great to see them again. A touch of sadness but not as much as I would have thought.
