This is my mat. There are many like it, but this one is mine. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me my mat is lifeless. Without my mat, I am lifeless. I must come to my mat with no expectations. I must let go of emotions that hold me back. I must let go of these thoughts before they consume me. I will. My mat and I know that what counts in life is not the past we cannot change, the future we cannot predict, or the worry that comes from trying. We know that it is the present moment that counts. We will live in it.

My mat is human, even as I am human, because it is life. Thus, I will use it as an extension of myself. I will learn its connectedness, its support, its feel, its smell, its edges and its weight. I will keep my mat clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other.

Before the universe I swear this creed. My mat and I are the defenders of bliss. We are the masters of minds. We are the saviors of life. So be it, until samādhi is achieved and there is no samsara.
