I'd meant to keep up here, but I suspect I'll end up with a weekly post. I have a good excuse: this is the final push before I publish. I am weaving in a few story lines in order to make most of the characters eventual masters of their fates, since that was the complaint of the last agent who dropped off.
Some of her criticism was justified, but she failed to keep in mind that the story takes place during the Great Depression, a time of economic upheaval when no woman was truly master of her fate. It was a man's world and they were having a hard enough time as it was.
So I took the criticism that I found justifiable and discarded the rest. Not every character in my book has a happy ending and that's okay with me. Life sometimes hands a raw deal to people, whether they deserve it or not. Seems unfair, but that's the way it is.
I'm also occupied with my blog: findingflorida.org. I've just started a series on my favorite spot off the coast of Florida's panhandle. Come read if you get the chance!
