So long already? Weird.
Non-youtube stuff. Work remains worky. My kind of boss who has been relatively supportive of my possible promotion case this year is leaving, which is giving me flashbacks to last year when I was given basically the same role and it got taken away because my previous boss left for another role and the subsequent reorganisation took the role away. [Edit - I just realised that I didn’t say ‘role’ enough in this sentence, so: role, people.]
This time I will demand that the new boss agrees to put me forward, and will throw a massive strop if I don’t get my own way. Politely, but a strop nevertheless.
I have a week off coming up in September, which will be just soooo nice.
Onto the story narration experiment....
Two months in and it’s basically a dying duck quacking into the void on a bi-weekly basis. Zero views on youtube, I have a podcast running as well for the short story side of things. . . that also gets zero views.
My biggest achievements so far are that I have one download of the podcast in America and one drive-by positive comment on Youtube (and they didn’t subscribe, the swine). So at least it is physically possible to find the videos on Youtube if only by accident.
But it’s valuable. Narrating is really helping me to learn how to speak. I speak so, so, so fast it’s unreal, and actually hearing it recorded really makes me think about how to slow down and speak clearly. You can’t say ‘um’ every five seconds if you’re narrating.
It’s also got me writing more than I have in months. Too much in many ways; I would estimate that by about November I’m going to have to stop the current format because I simply cannot come up with this much new short-story material, do the recording/uploading and also continue working on my current actual ‘would like this to be published’ project.
I mean, not that it matters given that I have zero listeners, but if by some miracle I do obtain any in the next three months I’ll likely have to start soliciting other people’s work for the channel, which honestly, is something I’ll probably do anyway because that’s the one way I can definitely get other people to push the channel/podcast for me.
Also, being brutally realistic, by then I should have improved a lot. I’m not quite so stupid as to believe that I can waltz into narration and be good at it right away. What I’m doing is the newbie, not-very-good-at-this phase, and I promised I would not give up during this phase.
We’ll see how that goes.

I think with the work stuff you kind of HAVE to throw a strop to get anything. Wrong as it is, people aren’t going to reward a solid and non complaining performer.
