It’s mornings like today that remind me how delightful life can be.
Boy and I were both awake at O’ fuck o’clock. Pre-dawn. Me; working like a maniac. He, playing video games. He came out into the living room and let me know that the alert on his phone had beeped to say that the ISS was going to be visible. Because we’re both great big nerds, we stood outside staring Northeast at the growing sunrise and watched as it moved across to the horizon.
Then Boy poked and prodded me to finish up the project I was working on so that we could go get breakfast. We chose the snazzy new hipstery breakfast place up the street in Old Town. It was well worth the manbuns and irony. Bacon that melts in your mouth, and spicy hashbrowns. Nomnomnom.
Afterwards, there was a stroll through the tiny Farmer’s Market, holding hands and dodging the umpteen million clipboard bearing sharks that patrolled the edge of the market, pouncing on people to sign petitions.
Our market is teeny, teeny tiny so the stroll didn’t take long. We made it home and I immediately collapsed onto the bed, since I’d been awake for about 20 hours. Then spent the next half an hour giggling madly as our two cats kept taking turns being weirdly obsessed with sniffing my bare knees and tickling me with cold, whiskery noses as Boy kept egging them on.
I finally crashed hard for a few hours. Now it’s time to get my tuckus back to work.
Despite the rollercoaster through the less fun parts of hell that the past few years have been, it’s a wonder to drift along on a lazy summer morning with my fella. I savor these hours.
