Creeping up in Wedding bells and other nonsense

Its been a crazy few months:

April 22nd I turned 40.. Nuts I do not feel 40, wait let me rephrase that. I feel age, I feel older. Joints are more creaky, I have laugh lines. Anyway it was a good birthday. My mom approached me a few days before said bday, and asked me if I would forgo a big bday party and a bridal shower for a trip to surprise my favorite cousin in Delaware. Now A) I am not a big party person b) Helping to plan my shower and worry about all that nonsense was annoying me. C) I haven’t see said cousin in four years
So of course I said yes. So we hurriedly made last minute arrangements to surprise my cousin at her gender reveal party. However it was less of a surprise because my dad blabbed on the phone with my aunt who was on speakerphone while baking cookies with said cousin.
However my cousin was very excited we were going and so was I. We grew up like sisters. I had no sisters just younger brothers and she had two big sisters but she is the oops baby. shes 12 and 9 years younger than both sisters. Every summer as kids her mom my moms big sister would bring her to Nevada and they would spend two months here. She actually lived here at one time for a year or so about 12 years ago..but I digress.
We flew spirit..which is the shittiest air line in the history of airlines. I am not a tall person, I am only five foot five but I have long legs and I was like a freaking sardine in a can. We did the red eye which is not my favorite, I have a hard enough time falling asleep in my comfy bed let alone a sardine can. My mom however was passed out before take off. I got a few hours of shut eye and we landed in Philly at 5:30 am. We took a uber to the Amtrack station, grabbed a quick bite to eat and we took the bullet train to Wilmington, DE. It was a quick trip and it was cool because my mom was telling me stories about how she used to take this very train when she worked in DC years ago (train runs from NYC to DC with stops in Philly and Wilmington)

My aunt and her granddaughter (my moms great niece, my second cousin) picked us up at the airport, we headed to grab a early lunch and then on to my aunts home in Millsborro.

We got to see all three of my aunts daughters, and I got to meet my second cousin’s baby (my mom’s great great niece and my third cousin) for the first time.
I also got filled in on the dysfunction that is my cousin’s life (the mom to be)

In a nutshell my cousin was married for ten years to a very nice, hard working man. My cousin is a engineer so is her hubby they make great money, had a gorgeous home, he is older (shes 38, he is 57) and when he retired in five years she was set on retiring herself. My cousin was always of the mind she did not want children, in fact she was staunchly Child free until..

She met her BF, what turned into a one night stand morphed into a full blown affair. She ended up falling in love with him and her and her hubby separated. Here is where i bang my head against the wall but they ( her and bf) started discussing family, kids, etc and never mind she is still married she stops her BC.

Of course she gets pregnant right away, by this time she has been separated and living with the BF for a year but she is still married and if you ask me her and her husbands relationship is weird. He obviously still loves her and has said she is always welcome home. She works out in their home, keeps alot of her clothes, showers their after working out..yet is living wit the bf. However its not my job to judge any one so I just said fuck it, not my circus not my monkeys.

Friday afternoon was spent preparing for the gender reveal, putting tableclothes on tables, blowing up balloons, etc.

My family were pretty blown away at my weight loss. Most of my cousins are overweight and a few have had the weight loss surgery. They were amazed I lost almost 80 pounds by diet and exercise and I kept getting “yours skinny” because I am my worse critic and I do not see that half the time.

Saturday was the gender reveal, it was fun. I don’t get gender reveals..at all but to each their own. They are having a boy which I guessed correctly. It was fun, I ate to much but it was great being with family.

Sunday my mom and I went to the gym, came back and we helped clean up from the reveal, Sun night we got together at one of my cousins house and my mom, oldest cousin and I talked wedding stuff. My oldest cousin is my Godmother she is also a party planner. So she is my wedding planner of sorts.

Monday was a day full of shopping at the outlets, I got my engagement photo dress, my dress for our rehearsal dinner as well as three other dresses. I also picked up some night wear at the Victorias Secret outlet. That was quite the experience picking out nighties while my mom and aunt looked on lol. My cousin thankfully distracted them with buy three get three underwear. I also picked out my fiancees engagement photo shoot outfit. Because if left to him he would wear a t shirt and jean shorts.

We flew home Tue and as much as it was nice to get away and be around family i was glad to be home.

Unfortunately my dad had gotten a procedure done that day and there were some complications. It was been a exhausting week but thankfully he is on the mend.
