No im not having issues with my OCD. Typically i go through my phases and wash my hands till they are insane. Buuuut ive been washing wool lol.
Its a LOT. I should take photos hahaha. Its so nasty really.
The wool comes to you, covered in lanolin which is waterproof, dirt, grime, food, bits of hay and seeds and of course poop. You have to wash it ALL out. Which means a couple of washes. The first one is super hot near boiling water and soap. Then less hot water and less soap. Then again, After about 3 washes most of the lanolin is gone and you can do plain rinses. You can either rinse till the water runs clean ( HA HA HA HA) or rinse a few times to get the soap out and then let it dry.
Drying can take a bit. Unless you have a dryer that you can do non tumbling on. Sometimes there are tray inserts, Mine dosent, so i have to air dry. Press all the water out, then let it dry. I generally put it in front of the heater to let the heat dry it, Of course it makes my house smell something like sheep haha. But its a lot of fun really. I mean of course fun depends on who you speak to, and for me, this is fun!
Ill get some photos of different stages of washing.
After its dry, ill card it on my carder then spin it, Possibly dye it somewhere along the line. I can dye it any time with the hot water. The heat makes dye bond, and the acid ( vinegar) adhears it. But instead, ithink i want to do this natural. I want some lovely natural shades. I often dye my white, and this is white, But it would be nice to have some lovely ecru colored yarns too. I want to knit this shawl and its shown in many shades of natural wools.
Oh my hands are so dry! I hate the papery feeling. Time to find some lotion or something!!
