. . . do I get to coast along before I have to actually stop pretending that it’s only just the New Year, so getting things in order can wait until everything’s back to normal?

I reckon about eleven months.

Christmas was suitably Christmassy. Nothing dramatic happened, which is a large improvement over last year. We stayed at home and ate large amounts of nice food and watched Die Hard, the finest of all Christmas movies.

Yes.

New Year brings the usual dieting nonsense and no real resolutions, since I suck too much at keeping them to bother making them in the first place.

We plan to go back to America on holiday this year. Possibly San Francisco, however much we loved New York. This is the trouble - we’re not rich enough to go on far-flung holidays every year and there are so many places we want to go to, and so many that we want to go back to. . . . Can’t do them all.

This seems unfair.
