Sunshine on snow in The View from the Terrace

It was a beautiful winter’s day here today with the sun glittering on the snow. Every now and again large clumps of it were falling off the trees. The Black Mountains are not black right now, but white, and were shining in the sunlight. It was still very quiet. There have been no trains since the day before yesterday until mid afternoon today. The road is open but there is very little traffic. No one in our row of houses managed to get to work today as the cars were all snowed in. Hubby did walk down to the post office for a few supplies but it was closed. We forgot that they live up in the foothills of the mountains so they can’t get here. Luckily Tony was spending the weekend with Justeen so he was able to bring some milk, bread and coffee back from the supermarket. When we called him we advised him to leave his car in the village and walk up but he was determined to get the car up and managed to eventually. He had shopping and didn’t want to carry it up the icy lane.

The roof of Hubby’s greenhouse has collapsed. I remembered to get him to get the snow off the kitchen roof. Once many years ago we had an even bigger snowfall and the kitchen roof collapsed. That was 1981/2. Chris was 5 months old. That year the pipes froze and the power was off for two or three days. We had to take the baby into our bed to keep him warm. It’s not that bad this time. Hubby has cleared the path just in case the postman or any delivery men manage to get up here. I have quite a lot of presents due to arrive from Amazon.

Sadly I realised today that both our lilac tree and the magnolia are either broken or bent right over. I do hope we can save them, especially the magnolia, it is my favourite blossom tree.
That is it in the right bottom corner of this pic. It looks broken but maybe some of it is savable. Beside it is what was a large forsythia but that will grow back even if we cut it right down, though we won’t get much blossom in the spring this year.

This is our pretty little church on the hill opposite. It looks closer than it actually is. Cat was baptised there, but sadly it is closed now.

There have been lots of birds around the feeder, tits, sparrows, more robins and even a blackbird. Fortuantely I have no plans to go out over the next few days except to get a Christmas tree and that will have to go on hold. We are going to a wedding celebration on Saturday so I hope it has cleared by then, but for now I am really enjoying the beauty of it all.
