The great declutter in Starting over in so many ways

Or procrastination instead of the great declutter. Actually, made good progress today. I've been trying to get a good clean done on the bottom floor of the house for ages, not just vacuum and wash floors but wash doors and baseboards and dust shelves as well. Decluttered the coat and shoe area by the front door and am starting a pile of clothes to be donated as well.

I can definitely afford to downsize my clothes. My wardrobe is a double door job that has two drawers under it that run the full width. One drawer contains my tshirts and long sleeve shirts and the other contains my pyjamas and workout clothes. My bedside drawer contains all my underwear - 3 small drawers, one each for bras, underwear and socks (in that order from top to bottom because I'm anal retentive like that.

Tomorrow I will clean and organise the ensuite bathroom, scrub it top to bottom so that it won't require anything but a light clean before my Mum and step-dad arrive from Canada on Thursday. We are giving the the master bedroom with ensuite because the spare room that contains the double bed is the smallest in the house and we think they would struggle with being stuck together in such a small room (there is only room enough to crab walk sideways around the bed. There are two bedside tables in there and that's all that fits other than the bed.

Adrian is planning to work away in the office to try and organise that chaos in there. It's the dumping ground and since we switched Breandán from the tiny bedroom into it because his new bunkbeds wouldn't fit the little room, some of the excess crap has landed in the office and we can't even use it at the moment. It's my craft room as well and I can't get at any of that stuff either. We definitely need to downsize, there isn't enough room for everything we own in this house.

I've been slowly selling off some things on donedeal and will sell some others on eBay to try and get some cash back for stuff that has some value to someone somewhere. I've already given away so much of Breandán's baby furniture that I want to see if we can actually earn some money for other things, even if it means hanging on to it until it sells. Of course, at the moment I'm just hanging on to it because I haven't got the time to get things posted on donedeal or eBay to sell them. My Mum wants to learn how to do this when she comes here so I'm going to teach her and set her to work selling some of my excess crap.

Very excited by Mum's trip here. She and John are coming over for the wedding, of course but they are planning to stay about 7 weeks so they can experience a St. Paddy's Day in Ireland. My Mum's birthday is March 1st so she'll get to celebrate her birthday with us here. I've already booked two hot stone back massages at the local spa for me and her, want to spoil her a bit. Last time she was here was 3.5 years ago when Breandán was just 3 months old. She sees him from time to time when I'm video chatting with her on Skype but it's just not the same as seeing the wee man in person. I don't think I've spent this much time with her since I last lived with her at the age of 19/20 - about 25 years ago.

She was a bit concerned that she wouldn't be seeing that much of me when she came over because I do work full time, as does Adrian but I reminded her that I work from home 3 days a week so we will have a lot of time together during the day as well. She wants to learn how to make websites so I'm going to demonstrate my favourite web service for her and let her play with it. Building websites and posting stuff on eBay will be the two things she wants to learn to do while she here so we can sit together in the livingroom and work away and I'll be on hand if she has any questions.

I'm also very much looking forward to going for walks with her in the mornings. She wants to start doing more exercise and where I live in Ireland is a lot warmer than where she lives in Canada at the moment so we'll be able to get out and about quite a bit, I think.

Anyway, late here now, nearly 1.30 am and I promised my son homemade pancakes for breakfast so I best get my bum to bed.

Night all!
