Well, as I believed I mentioned previously, Brian, my youngest son is marrying his girlfriend in March. Last week, I found out that Jessica is now engaged to her boyfriend of two years. Jessica is not my daughter exactly. She is the sister of my son through their biological father. He was never in the picture, and died of a drug overdose when Jess was ten years old. Jessica was raised by her great grandmother, who is now 94 and on a fixed income, Jessica’s mother also having a substance abuse problem.
So, Brandon (my eldest) and I are now in the position of figuring out how to give both of them their dream weddings, receptions, etc. all in the same year, lol.
Jessica spent a disproportionate part of her life in our home, and Cheryl and I had always planned on taking care of her wedding due to the financial status of her biological family, and as I consider her one of my children, I am happy to do so but each wedding seems to have their challenges.
Jessica, who is a devout christian, is marrying Alauna, who is jewish. They are doing a combined wedding where both faiths will be represented. I am throwing a reception in December to allow both families to meet. Jess is understandably embarrassed to have her future in-laws meet her mother and current stepfather.
I have no idea how to cater this suaree at the moment, but I will figure it out. And whatever it takes, it will be exactly what the kids want.
Brian and Elizabeth are getting married in March. In a cemetery of all things. The reason is somewhat understandable; he wants to be married near his brother’s grave so that he’ll feel his brother is with him on his wedding day. I don’t care for the idea, but if it’s what they want (and I’ve tried to talk them out of it) I’ll help them make it happen.
So, I guess it’s time to get a second job for this year. It’s not like I couldn’t use the extra income anyway. I’ll pay for the weddings and save a little money for a long and relaxing vacation after. Maybe take Brandon with me on a cruise. We can sit at the deck bar and drink away the pain, lol. At that point I have a feeling we will have earned it!
