Good Morning World in Muddling Through As Best I Can

Well, things have been interesting to say the least in the last few weeks. Haven’t said anything until now because I was so agitated I didn’t want to go into it.
In late July I took in my deceased wife’s nephew and his wife, as well as their two small children when they became homeless. I couldn’t let the children (3 year old girl, 5 year old boy) live on the street or in a homeless shelter.
On August 14, they asked me to watch their children for a few minutes while they went to the grocery store. The children were asleep and I told them I was taking a quick shower and would listen for them. When I came out of the shower, the parents were back. It had been less than twenty minutes. I then went to the store myself, and when I got back, they had left and I didn’t think anything of it.
A few minutes later, my oldest son called me and told me that the nephew, Terry had called him threatening to kill me, hide the body etc. because he had me on video molesting their daughter. This of course is a lie, else I would not be typing this post.
My son, being a police officer, records all his phone calls. On the recording, Terry is very graphic in describing what he said he saw. He also stated that he had “known” for a while what was going on, so they set up a cell phone to record and went to the store to catch me in the act. Father of the year; he left his child as bait for a supposed sexual predator.
Being me, and having nothing to hide, I called the police myself as well as Child Protective Services. Terry’s cell phone was confiscated, and there was a video. It was an hour and 41 minutes of their children sleeping in a room alone.
Terry also gave a statement to the police prior to them taking his phone repeating vehemently that he saw me on the video and giving very graphic and disgusting details of what had supposedly happened.
I allowed the authorities to search my home and remove bedding where the supposed offense took place. The parents tried to object, stating I couldn’t allow a search in their room, but that didn’t stand up since I’m the property owner.
DNA on the bedding came back, and the father’s DNA was found. Now both parents are in the wind with the children and warrants have been issued for them.
My only inconvenience in all this is that I voluntarily turned over my phone also, and haven’t been able to get it back for over a month so far. I’ll live.
In cleaning up the rooms they were living in, I found drug paraphenalia. I was unaware that they were addicts, but I turned it all over to the police to dispose of.
There are two morals to this story; If you live your life honestly and morally, you don’t have to fear false accusations nearly as much, and liars never win.
That being said, I am extremely worried for their children.
I honestly don’t know how I get into these situations, but it always happens when I allow this particular branch of former inlaws into our lives. Quoth the raven; Nevermore.
I’ve told my sons that if I EVER mention taking anyone in who is not my child or grandchild again, they have my full support if they should choose to have me intitutionalized. I will have obviously lost control of all mental faculties.
