Service industry woes... in 2017

On Sunday - the last day that rounded out my 80 hour Sunday to Sunday - I had a table of 4 come in. Parents & 2 kids. They’ve been in before, but not regulars.
Anyway. My co-worker (the cook) got their drinks (3 waters & 1 tap beer) & took their order because I was busy at that particular time. They had their food by the time I got back to the table (maybe 15 minutes) and they needed more water, but said the food was good. I brought them a pitcher of water and asked if they needed anything else. They said no. My coworker had also asked them if they needed anything when she dropped off the food.
I literally had their tab in my hand when they came up asking for it. I also had 3 other tabs in my hand plus a tray of drinks waiting to be delivered. I ran her card and said, “Thank you! Have a good day!” I came back to pick up the credit card slip and in the tip line, it said, “None because our waitress did nothing.” I guess checking on you after you got your food and bringing you a pitcher of water is “doing nothing.” I will admit…I could have done a MUCH better job, but I got busy at that particular time.
Anyway, I went to clear the table off and I found a hat on the back of the chair. I grabbed it and went outside to give it to them. (Trust me, I wanted to throw it in the garbage… fuck that bitch.) The mom was still outside the vehicle and the two kids were in the vehicle already buckled up. I said, “Hey, is this yours?” She gets in the vehicle and tells her daughter who is ALREADY BUCKLED UP to get out and get it. Probably because I was NICE and gave the fucking hat back.
Her daughter gets out, grabs the hat, says thank you, and gets back in the car. Before she closed the door, I yelled, “YOU’RE WELCOME!! HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!!!” I sure hope she felt like the biggest fucking bitch because I played nice.

Unfortunately, there will always be some ungrateful people out there.
