Alive and (almost) Kicking in Packrat

I’m baaaack! When I last wrote here I said I had a bug, which made me really irritable; I missed a week of work with what I thought was the flu but was actually an infection. I went to the hospital on December 22nd and stayed there for THREE MONTHS! Today is my first day back at work, and I’m looking for a home computer. I lost three toes but am lucky; one of my relatives had the same thing happen to her but she lost her leg (and I had been told I might) and another had problems with his foot and lost his life.

My foot practically had to grow back, which made me think I had to be part reptile - cut something off and it grows back. I wouldn’t be surprised if my toes showed back up. I’m waiting and watching.

I had a crush on one of my nurses; he was cute but was also a sensitive artist who said my artistic endeavors inspired him to go back to art. He saw me as a person, always remembering what I said or what I did, rather than just a sick body in his care.

S threw me away - I let him know when I went in; he said he’d come for a visit then didn’t show and I haven’t heard from him since. He lives within walking distance of the hospital and has to pass it to go to his office downtown, which was also close by. Notta.

I’m actually still under nursing care but I’m free to come back to work and to drive (and my car has a clutch!). My only slight drawback in my healing process was that I danced to a U2 video - vigorously - and caused my foot to swell; everybody said I shouldn’t have done that, but I didn’t hurt anything. And, hey - it’s U2; you can’t just sit there; ya gotta move, and that with great enthusiasm. My great disappointment is finding out their current tour is all sold out and I won’t get to see them unless a miracle happens; I cried bitterly. I just found out too late.

I know how lucky I am, and at 53 I feel I have a new lease on life.

Wow! I'm so glad you are healing well! That's a shame about S but at least it leaves no doubt. I'd wondered at your absence and had hoped you were okay. Be well, dear Eriu. [HUGS]

Thank you for the good thoughts! I'm surprised at S; it's so uncharacteristic of him. He hasn't even asked anybody at work about me. I still have to talk to him; I lent him one of my favorite books and I want it back. He went through a lot with his mom in and out of the hospital; I couldn't go to pow wows after the Coyote died, but if S had problems with hospitals he should have told me, and he hasn't called or texted.

So glad you are better ! That was a close call !

Yeah, and I didn't really know how close until my relatives went through the same thing. I know how lucky I am!

WOW! Three months? I barely lasted 21 days in such a place. Which did you want more, your own shower or your own food.? So glad you're better. Take great care, my Pb friend. ...and please write again soon.

Eriu Katren...In Conclusion ⋅ June 05, 2017

I wanted the shower first because "washing" my hair just meant putting goop in it. They overfed me until I couldn't stand to even smell the food. I had my crush to help me make it through; he even told me his schedule so I'd know when to stalk him! LOL

Glad to hear you are on the mend!

Sewn together nicely! haha

I was thinking about you the other day...wondered where you went to. That must have been a really serious infection. You have to follow whatever instructions the doctor gives you. Lose your leg? That can't happen!

Eriu NorthernSeeker ⋅ June 05, 2017

I'm out of danger for losing my leg unless I let something like this happen again. I was sweating it for a few days, though!

I noted on your later post. Yeah, you have to get a computer at home. So glad mmost of you is still on you.

Eriu MageB ⋅ June 05, 2017

I told one of my doctors that I wanted my toes after they were removed so I could wear them as earrings and a necklace (I lost three) but he grossed out at the thought!

I'm glad you're recovered and glad your current recovery is from a dancing injury. Hurray for life tasting good!
