It was good to get away from the “maddening crowd”. There is a little chaos, the mother of the bride is a lil stressed. The GUC’s are clucking. Lynn, she’s starting to make the egg dish for Sunday brunch. Terry, is finishing up other errands for tomorrow. I told my wife, I think I will head to the Depot, and I know I am the only one that is interested. The Depot is about a five to ten minute drive. It is roughly located south of Downtown Boise. Vikki and Terry’s house is halfway between the Depot and the Airport.

The Union Pacific mainline runs south of downtown and even south of the airport. Nampa is the terminal, yard, and crew change for the UP. This is the line westward to the Pacific Northwest and eastward Salt Lake City, UT, where they will join the “Transcon” for them. The track that runs past the Boise Depot is an active branch, and either a yard job or a local uses it. the rails have a little polish to them, but I am guessing one or two trains. I have never seen any action on it, when we have visited in the past.

Boise Depot:
The City now owns this, and the property. They are also caretakers of the Mikado steam locomotive, “Big Mike”, that the Union Pacific donated.

The rear of the Depot and the brick platform. You can see the old mainline, which is now a branchline. You can see that other tracks have since been removed

That station is wonderful. Don't they have trolley's or some form of transit using it. The LA Union station has Amtrack, Metro, trolleys, and busses using it. This station if about the same size above ground. It's marvelous.

No trolley, parking somewhat limited. I am unsure if it is on the bus line toward the airport. Plus I forgot to say it is closed with the exception of special events. It is open to the Public on Sundays and Mondays 1200 pm to 4 pm.

What a shame. They should copy LA or San Diego. We have Amtrak, the trolley, and Coaster using our station now.
