Holiday weekend coming up in At the foot of the hill

Really? This weekend is Memorial Day. I remember when that day was observed on May 30…before the politicians decided it needed to always be a 3-day weekend and changed it to the last Monday in May. Three-day weekends are okay, I guess, but over the years this particular day seems to have lost a lot of its meaning. Do your kids/grands understand that it was first set aside to remember those who lost their lives in WWI, the “War to End All Wars”?
At this time our plans only extend until Saturday night when we will meet friends for dinner and then take in Mike’s show at a nearby “Brew/Pub”. Should be fun. What we do the rest of the weekend remains to be seen.

I love 3 day weekends but they are always jam packed just like this one was with gardening, gardening, gardening! Hope yours was lovely.

Many of our original holidays meant something. Any more, they're just a three-day weekend for sales, barbeques, traveling -- anything but what they were supposed to mean. :-(
I remember Lincoln's birthday, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day on the CORRECT day...and others.
I've pledged with IAVA (Iraqi and Afghanistan Veterans of America) to honor a minute of silence at 11:00AM Eastern Time. Our troops - past, present, and future - are today's heroes.
