Waiting for Margaritaville in Understanding the Unthinkable

They are still waiting for results but the doctors are pretty sure its esophageal cancer. SIL said my brother needs surgery asap or he won’t make it, so she’s hoping surgery on Friday but that’s not confirmed yet. She said the tumor is causing the blood clots in his lungs and that won’t stop until the tumor is removed. SIL is going to go with a well-respected surgeon, which I support. My brother is too weak for at trip to Mayo even by ambulance.

My brother’s son is in Tampa so they have each other to lean on. Thankfully, my brother did not need a tube or a tracheotomy, so they’ll be able to visit.

The surgery will remove his esophagus and they will pull his stomach up to take its place (kind of like gastro by-pass surgery. The doctors say his lungs will never recover but SIL and I agree: all he needs is enough strength to sit on the beach and raise a margarita.

I'm glad there is finally a diagnosis. Sending prayers for strength and healing (and getting the fixin's ready for those margaritas)

So sorry to hear this but hope that the surgery will go well. Yes, sitting on the beach under an umbrella and drinking a margarita is a must and he WILL get to do it!

Just saw on another message board that April is esophagus cancer awareness month and it lists symptoms, statistics, survival rate, all kinds of things sponsored (not sure if that is the correct term to use) by the Mayo Clinic. Never knew their was a month for it.

ConnieK QueenSuzu ⋅ April 20, 2017

Neither did I. It's too late for surgery so the goal now is to get him strong enough to try one or two chemo treatments, probably at Moffitt.

Opps, should have spelled "there" not "their".
