So, I am officially a student again. I have started on my Maths and Physics studies for the Open University, and my goodness what a struggle it’s been this week! I haven’t done any full on studying since I took maternity from college when Jasmine was a rapidly growing bump. I’d forgotten how much time and effort needed to be put in, on top of that I am also having to supervise a baby girl - something I didn’t have to do before. To put it mildly I have now requisitioned our dining table and it currently is the home to my laptop, several pads of paper, a few A4 folders, a number of text books and learning guides, and a large biscuit tin.
As it requires me to effectively study full time, the dining room is best because that way I can keep an eye and an ear out for Jasmine, be close to the kitchen, and stroll out and take breaks. It’ll take time to get used to it all, I just need to re-adjust.
Valentines - yes, I had a date. Goodness knows how. A few of my friends set it up like a blind date and I thought why not, I have nothing to lose, plus ater starting studies it would be nice to unwind for an evening. I didn’t want anything like a film or dinner out, as I wanted to be in a position where if things weren’t going well I could just leave and not be trapped. And if it came to it, I could always use the excuse that I needed to get back to Jasmine.
Anyway, about him. His name is Scott, he’s 19 and he is studying at the university. He’s also from the same city so I have no worries about him going home for weeks/months outside term. (Hell did I just say that?!) The first thing I noticed were his eyes, they are such a strong blue colour that words almost cannot describe it.
Anyway, it was like a first date should be - neutral, and a getting to know you thing. We ended up in a pub not far from where I live (classy lol!!), and spent a fair bit of time talking. He’s studying Chemistry at the university, which is a good start as he’s scientifically-minded so I know it’s going to be intelligence behind those eyes. (Sorry, I will stop mentioning his eyes!). He asked me why I am doing open university, so I had to take a deep breath and just say it.
“I have an eight month old daughter.”
From his reaction of “Oh!” I got the feeling he hadn’t been forewarned about this. But he recovered quickly and asked “Is she as pretty as her mum?” Apart from that slight moment of awkwardness, things went pretty well I guess.
He walked me home after and outside the house he gave me a hug… and for a brief moment our lips somehow managed to meet....
So yeah, I’m pretty sure I will be seeing him again. I hope. He seems pretty nice, he knows I come with ties (Jasmine), and as we are both studying we can both understand that there will be stressy time ahead.
Of course Salena wanted to know all about it so when I was talking to ger on Skype on Wednesday she was “Tell me everything!” She makes me smile. “So when ae you going to boff him then?” Nosey sister lol!! Just because she got lucky on Valentine’s night lol. I haven’t had sex for about six weeks (and that was a needs thing with Jasmine’s dad, and I don’t regret it as it was nice) and I’m not in any rush to have sex again neither but it did get me thinking… would I with Scott? At this stage I don’t know. After the Daniel situation last year, I am a bit wary of being cheated on but I guess at some stage I am going to have to put that behind me and keep the faith if I want to be in a relationship.
Wow, this is long. I just hope I can do as good with my OU studies as I have with this entry!
