Gee whiz! It has been so windy here that even though the temperature has been in the 40s or even 50 most days, it has just felt bitterly cold! Now, I’m not really complaining, just stating a fact. My friends here on PB all live in places where it actually IS bitterly cold, complete with snow! Well except for Patrisha, but she used to live in Vermont, so she knows. ;o)
I would really enjoy some sunshiny warmth. This is a three day weekend coming up, and I would not mind being able to do something outdoors without having to bundle up like an eskimo! On Saturday we are going to take sister Sandy car-looking. She is thinking of buying a new Subaru. Her current one is in good shape, but it’s a 2005 and has 92,000 miles. That’s really not a lot, especially not for a 2005!! But she will feel more secure in a new car, AND more secure with Joe along helping her look for one and deal for it. When she bought her current one, her husband Chuck was still with her.
She might be giving her current car to our son Joey!!!!! She had mentioned to me and Joe that she wished she could donate the car to a Veteran. Joe piped right up with, “Joey’s a Veteran!” Which he sure is....he was in the 82nd Airborne just like Sandy’s son Michael was! And Joey badly needs a better car, but really can’t afford to buy one. Sandy seems to like the idea right well. I hope she will do it, but we haven’t said anything to Joey about it. And if she decides she’d better use it as a trade-in instead, we won’t be mad. She is pretty well set, financially, though, but even so....it could happen.
I got my epidural injection on Tuesday morning, and I feel sooooo much better now! After working all day, I am still sore, but not the same kind of sore. I am only “hard day at work sore” and not “sciatica sore.” There is a huge difference! I learned that it is my pain management doctor’s preference that I NOT try to “hold out longer,” like I did this past time, but instead to call him for an injection BEFORE I get to the stage I let myself get to! I thought the injections had to be no more than every three months. He said not necessarily. The hope is that I will become able to go longer and longer between injections, in time, but if I wait until I am in severe pain in-between-times, I actually set myself back. Well, I SURE DON’T WANT TO DO THAT!!!!! I trust Dr. Sutherland because he has done something that has actually HELPED me, and he is the only person who has helped me with this problem. So for me, he must be right!!
I am looking forward to this weekend! Saturday we’ll do the car-looking early in the day. Then on Saturday evening I volunteered to serve at our school’s Black History Month banquet. This will be my fourth year of doing that, and I really enjoy it. :o) So many families come, and the kids are going to be in a program after the banquet, so they are all dressed up. I love telling them all how nice they look. :o) And it is just nice, the wonderful community spirit, ya know? The banquet is something our Food Service Association puts on each year to raise money for our scholarship fund. Every year we award two scholarships to graduating seniors who are going to college to study food service, nutrition, or any health-related field.
Sunday I’m going to my coven’s meeting. There’s going to be a workshop on The Crone and Sage....in Paganism, those are terms of much respect for the older women and men. We still believe in HONORING old age for its wisdom and experience, and there’s even a ceremony we hold for those who have reached a certain age and wish it; the rite of passage commemorates that they are now going to make their wisdom and counsel available to the younger ones of the community, being retired from other work! We are having a Croning later in this month for a coven member who is 72.
After the meeting and workshop, Wendy and I are going to get together at her house for some gab-fest-time!
And Monday, sister Carol and I are going to do something just-us-two. She and Sandy are having a weirdness between them again, alas. I can’t snap my fingers and make that better for them. But I can do things with them separately for awhile! They’ll be back on terms again before long.
