Up early this morning.. Then after watching the Last 20 minutes of the Englad Vs Wales Rugby, we loaded up the car with trees and a flask and headed up to the Field.... Stops made for a cooked breakfast and a stop at the hardware store for Number “4” and “0” to put on the fence by the gate … We are to order a small shipping crate for storage and possibly a ride on grass cutter .. long story there .. another entry
We have a bit of a routine now when we visit .. Do we need the loo ?? If so head into the villiage as no toilet yet on the field .....Then onto the field nd put up the small tent like shade thing-a-me. . Then a cuppa tea or coffee… Then a walk about or a check on something ..such as today how wet the field was in the boggy patches … Especially where I’m hoping to place my vegetable plot… then usually anoth cuppa as we watch the harrier hawks or other birdlife .. But today we had the threat of bad weather coming in and more trees to plant…We are plating around the edges of the field at the moment. This will form a small path way for us to walk around .. Maybe dropping in here and there to see things … I think it will be a nice thing to do …
Today, eagle eyed JillyBean notice a round bundle moving around on the neighboughs nice mown lawn area .. Its big … With NBinoculars in hand it turned out to be a very well fed looking Hedgehog … Another find for the area … Also had the sound of pheasants shouting in the not too distant …
Meanwhile, we cracked on and planted our trees … 4 native Psuedo Panix and an exotic. the Orange Blosom… Pictures to come

Anyway, back to my thinking for the day
I’ve always wanted an allotment. That Great British tradition going back hundreds of years. Now under attack as councils and developers eye such prime land for housing… Plus the fact that they are easy targets for thieves and vandals and I think the idea of the Allotments are under serious threat … Which is a damned shame…. In New Zealand the allotment concept doesn’t exist. Community gardens are a more recent take on the Allotment and has gained some ground but isn’t what I want.
So the Lazy Square now affords us the ability to design and build our own exclusive allotment. Now to be known as the Lazy Allotment :O) The design of which has been in my head for some time … Despite that fact there’s a worrying element of concern as to what and how far I go with it, as well as the reality of it … I’ve now no excuses . This is where all my talk over the years comes to fruition .. Good or bad …. And so much to think about and consider… The lazy Allotment isn’t a name as humour or by accident. It has to be built and maintained in a labour efficient way. It has to be large enough to afford us the majority of our vegetables near year round. Organic as we can be, of course. I still like the idea of growing heritage vegetables and not the hybridised modern varieties, but where we have been using the intensive gardening methods such as the Square Foot Gardening, having more space will allow me to be more ‘relaxed’ in growing technique. I’ll also be able to incorporate soft fruit and perennial vegetables such as asparagus and also look to groupings of vegetables such as root crops, legumes, Brassicas etc and then follow a reasonable crop rotation..
The idea of an orchard is also in my head and working itself onto paper.. More on that again later
However, that’s all the clinical ‘stuff’ .. What I’ve liked in my previous vegetable plots has been “Kitchen Garden” effect …Or potager if you’re posh like … where flowers (often edible) and herbs grow amongst the main vegetables… There are advantages in doing this no less important being bringing in beneficial insects such as the bees.. Must look after the bees … But can I do this and maintain the space needed for the vegetables .. Of course there will be a cottage style flower garden around the house .. I’m keen near the kitchen to create a ‘witches Garden” for all the herbs be they in borders or pots to contain them …
And of course I need space for a shed ! and a greenhouse … Is the Lazy square really big enough :O)
