The Million Women March in A New Beginning

Thousands or maybe even millions of women are going to be marching tomorrow, in Washington DC and in Philadelphia and other big cities. They are marching in protest of the inauguration of Donald Trump, but also to protest the Republican agenda on certain issues that concern women, such as the de-funding of Planned Parenthood, the proposed overturning of abortion laws, etc. The issue with Trump has to do with his history (recent, even) of saying and doing misogynistic things. This angered many women.
I will not be taking part in any of the marches. I barely gave it any thought. A lot of women I know are going, but they are not women who live close to me; they’re women in our spiritual tradition who live a couple hours away or in DC or Philly. If someone I know really well who lived close to me was going, I very well might have said “Hey, can I ride with you?!” But I don’t drive distances, in city traffic like that.
I wouldn’t have gone to protest Trump, because I honestly think he’s going to prove to not be misogynistic at all. Yea, he is on record as saying a lot of things. I must confess that I say “a lot of things” too! He needs to learn to stop blabbing like that, now that he’s soon-to-be President! A lot of people complain about “political correctness,” but to me, political correctness is just a synonym for civility. I really think he’ll learn.
What I WOULD go for, if I were going, was to take a stand for women’s rights. Because women are still kicked around in this country, in many ways. Oh, not “all” women, but most women have experiences of it. And it has not even been a hundred years yet, that women in this country have had the right TO VOTE! That just disgusts me.
Anyhow, a good friend of ours is going to DC tomorrow, and she offered to carry with her the names of women who cannot go, including deceased women if someone asks. So I asked her to carry my name and also my mom’s and my grandmom’s. They have both been gone for a long time. I wonder what they would think of all the changes that have happened since they passed away?
Anyhow....our school district has an inservice day tomorrow, so I am once again on a three-day weekend! My BFF Wendy is supposed to come over tomorrow, but I guess I’ll just have to wait and see if she comes! Her phone doesn’t work half the time, and that’s how she does email, through her smartphone. Oddly enough, she messaged me last night and said she was having cataract surgery this morning! (I knew she was going to be having it sometime, just didn’t know when.) She said “As far as I know I’ll be able to drive, though, so I’ll still come over on Friday!” HUH?? I am not sure if a person is supposed to drive, the day after having eye surgery!! I had offered to go to her house when I extended the invitation, but she wanted to come here. I reckon I’ll find out what’s what tomorrow!
One of my co-workers, Tabitha, is 25 and is now separated from her asshole husband, who was very controlling and abusive to her. We women at work are so glad she is FINALLY divorcing him!! They have had three kids; the kids are ages 5, 2, and almost-one. The little boy, who’s five, was born with cerebral palsy. She is scared that she might lose her kids, but our school policeman told her that since her husband has a jail record and was abusive, there’s no way the court would give him the kids. He doesn’t even work anyway!! Tabitha has a hard row to hoe, but I am soooo much hoping things will work out for her.
