Haven’t written for about a month, and there is good reason. Things have been a bit up and down. Somehow I managed to get myself made redundant 3 weeks before Christmas. I know, epic timing. I’m still not exactly sure what’s behind it, nor do I particularly care. HR were extremely vague about why it was happening. Apparently my role is being “off shored” to Tunis. Though this is in fact a complete lie as far as I can see.
It all seems terribly underhanded to me. I shouted at one of the HR morons who interrupted me in my consultation meeting and told me I don’t need to be negative. Easy to say when you have a job and an income and are looking forward to Christmas.
In any case, I got reasonable cash settlement, and it’s not like I was really enjoying my life there. I have an interview next week for a job I do want in a location I don’t, but we shall see. There are one or two other irons in the fire.
Long and short, I’ve been on garden leave since early December, and unemployed since 29th. This gave me more time to arrange stuff for Christmas and New Year. The holiday was actually relatively stress free, all things considered. Mother’s eye operation went ahead and she can now see better than before, and my recently widowed aunt joined us for several days over Christmas.
I should also mention that my brother was made redundant the day after me. You can’t write this kind of comedy can you. On the plus side, they seem to have found him another position in the company, although it appears he’s doing the same job.
So I have been busy putting myself on the market and talking to solicitors for the last couple of weeks. Wish me luck people.
