Yes, I know. However, I had to wait until the dust settled on the major stuff before I ventured from behind the barricades! It has been an extraordinary time for many people and very polarising. However, I came to the concliusion that if I didn’t write now,I might as well leave Prosebox.I must warn all in sundry who might object to my writing that I am entitled to my opinion, whether you agree with it or not.

The first subject is the most inflammatory and I am not going to help here. The US election.Bear in mind readers, that this was a presidential election in the US.Yes, it will affect us to some degree, however, first and foremost it was a US election.I was an interested onlooker who watched, read and sought opinions in real life and virtual online life, and followed the campaign and debates and realised well before much of the world, that Donald Trump had a REAL chance of winning. To underline here,I am not a supporter of Trump or Clinton.I leave that to the Americans.

Last year I posted on Facebook that I thought America wanted a change and I put the reasons. That Trump represented that and was a complete novice and had never been in any office at all except his own business. And many Americans liked that.

As it transpired,Trump won.In actual fact,I was completely floored and amazed I was right.I had picked him because he represented change and I will give my reasons. Many millions had grown mistrustful of ‘The Establishment’ and felt they were forgotten and not represented in Government.Might I add that this was what did it.The ‘unthinkable’ as many have described it.And Trump, whether you like it or not,was the AGENT of that change.
The mainstream media were completely wrong and read it wrong and because they are ‘mainstream,’ media were believed.Remember I am an interested on-looker.I also question everything. And test it out.And my comments here are not an invalidation. They are proven and I have no wish to invalidate anyone. However, I remained quiet because of the vitriol and grief that accompanied his win which extended to New Zealand and many of my friends.

We don’t know if he will be a good/bad President. That is the future. And I for one am not into predicting the future.I live for today and I care tremendously for the world and my family.I have had enough totally unpredictable shocks and losses to not want to know. That is my last comment on this.

The next subject is the attendance of many overseas warships and weapons conference delegates to the 75th Birthday of our Navy. This time I have a personal interest.I come from a military background. My late husband was a veteran of the Malayasian Conflict in the 1950’s /60’s.He did 2 tours there. My uncle was a Chief of Defence Staff,My Fathers experience in WW2 was in the Solomon Islands as a bomb-loader and meterological
officer and he spent 4 years there. My brother-n-law was a Vietnam veteran. My Grandfather served in WW1 and my great-grandfather was in the NZ land wars. The first year and a half of my marriage my late husband was over in Thailand with the RNZEngineers building an airfield in North East Thailand to service American fighters and bombers during the Vietnam war. They were only 50 miles from the border of Thailand and Vietnam and the Mekong River.

This is by way of saying that I come from a hugely different perspective to many of you.Soldiers don’t create wars.Politicians do.Soldiers fight and die carrying out the orders of politicians.I am enormously proud of my military heritage. And of the Army,Navy and Airforce of my country. The visiting warships were very useful because we had a massive earthquake hit in the South Island and they helped out. They were not asked to by the Prime Minister, they offered as allies do.And they had helicopters, personnel and many many resources.Their Navies were here on invitation and were immensely popular with many of us.Weapons Conferences’ happen every year in different countries allied to us.They discuss new technology and the need for it in defence situations. They are entirely different from an International Arms Conference.Incidentally, the last International Arms Conference was held in 1921.And these delegates are not arms dealers and it is not an Arms race.Just clearing up any misconceptions. The nuclear question is not valid as it is a ‘neither confirm or deny’ matter.I am not intentionally invalidating any body elses opinion here.Just facts.
Remember this is MY opinion.

Okay, I will finish that one too.

Next subject:we have had an enormous earthquake here.A land changing event and VERY luckily we had only 2 deaths. Many fault lines criss-cross over New Zealand and its coast.Every now and then,we get very big, very damaging earthquakes and our little country suffers and changes. It will take many years and $$$$ to repair the damage and some damage,eg the coast and the infrastructure eg roads and rail will have to be rebuilt elsewhere.Such is the power of earthquakes. Many are so distressed and psychologically damaged it is hard to recover. Most do.

Well, there you go folks.MY OPINIONS on events.I have been quiet for long enough. Our small Waiheke Island is preparing for its summer season of visitors. We tolerate this because our small businesses and countless vineyards and restaurants invite visitors internationally and we , the locals who are NOT involved in business or vineyards and restaurants just get on with life.I LOVE summer because it is warm and the sun shines brilliantly and my old bones love it!Ha ha ha!

My family are all well and thriving and doing well at school and I am well and happy because I am part of that glorious family!Hope all is the same with you and I trust my opinions did not offend or invalidate. It was NOT intentional.Just different views.

Will try to write again very soon. And keep it all ‘vanilla’.That is also up to you.
Blessings,
Majimazexxxxxxxx

I enjoy reading your opinion. It's interesting to see our politics from another perspective.

I like your forthright opinions. I'm sure its not a big surprise that I am in the minority who tends to agree with you BUT I am open to reading and considering alternative opinions - usually I am able to read disagreeable opinions without feeling an irresistible urge to rush out and trash the neighbourhood in violent protest! Often I make little "jokes" about socialists but I suspect these aren't interpreted as jokes by left minded readers unfortunately. It's just a little bit of teasing but maybe that doesn't come across in print.

I, for one, am one of them that is very happy of a Trump win. Only time will tell if we were wrong in our choice. From the destructive protesting going on and no one on the losing side stepping up to ask them to stop only reinforces my opinion that our choice was correct. I would go on by what is going on in America and on many American colleges shows how immature our college students are and how much they are not really ready to be out in the real world where they will have to live outside their bubbles. And for the administrations to react in such a way that the colleges seem to becoming teenage + daycare centers. I cannot bring myself to really call them young adults when they are acting like children.

I can see that you have listened and studied and paid attention and I was very interested in your opinion.
