So yeah, that happened. in My So Called Love Life

In 2010, I started playing the Lord of the Rings online, introduced to me by my then boyfriend. I joined a kin (or guild, whatever the term that best makes sense) and made some excellent friends, aka kinmates.

Five years later, that relationship ended. To say I was devastated seems a bit of an understatement. As expected, and as I imagine most people in my position upon being told “I see no future with you” by the man they felt was their one and only, I thought I’d never be whole again, never open to any possibilities, any new relationship. Netflix, wine, and my gaming seemed like they’d be my loves, my only loves.

That is… until one day you comment to your kinmate on a G+ thread that you really appreciate their friendship. (I know that sounds like a pickup line. But I honestly did just appreciate their friendship and wanted to say so! No hidden agenda whatsoever.) That simple comment leads to an insanely long thread which switches over to text messages. Which leads to… yeah, I like you. I think about you. I want to be more than just… kinmates. And after months of phone calls, video chats, and increasingly risque pictures sent, I found myself driving 10 hours south and being held in his arms.

So yeah, that happened. And I can’t stop smiling....
