Another tweak in Site Updates

I decided while I was messing with the entry page to also move the author info into the entry panel, seems like a better use of space. I also think I like the word "Follow" better than "Bookmark". Because there's so much confusion about the difference between bookmarks and friends. You might "follow" Steve Martin, but that doesn't mean you're drinking buddies. So I'm trying that out too. :)

  1. First to leave a comment at least when I first started to type this.
  2. FABULOUS!

You're trying to be drinking buddies with Steve Martin? Didn't know he drank, but he does play a mean banjo. =)

Genius. Woo!

Deleted user January 16, 2014

Ah, you're right, that's a good solution and I do like it. No more novel-length entry titles, but that wasn't a good idea in the first place, right?

simple mind Deleted user ⋅ January 17, 2014

I'm sure there will be a few of those that wrap hideously but for the most part it seems pretty well balanced.

Princess Buttercup January 16, 2014

should you change "Bookmarks" to "Followers" in the toolbars? Or is that still something you are pondering before you make all the changes?

simple mind Princess Buttercup ⋅ January 17, 2014

Yeah, I didn't want to change everything and have everyone complain and change it all back. I'll make it all consistent again.

death_by_sharpie January 16, 2014

I like "Follow" better, too.

Oh, I like!

Leanne 🌈 January 16, 2014

Follow is cool.

Katren...In Conclusion January 17, 2014

Strongly dislike "follow".I'm no groupie. I follow no one, not to mention that social media jargon is ajust naturally a real turnoff. I sound like a real grouch, but I'm registering an opinion any way . :-)

simple mind Katren...In Conclusion ⋅ January 17, 2014

Opinion noted. Thus far you are overruled, but I did want to see what the general opinion was before changing it everywhere. I don't consider myself a groupie either, but if a popular sodia media term helps to clarify a confusing feature on the site I find it preferable.

perfunctory January 17, 2014

Love the verb change. "Follow" is definitely something that's easier to imagine these days. Maybe someday we'll graduate to using "stalking," because I mean let's be honest. That's what the internet is actually for. :) :)

Great work, Sir!

simple mind perfunctory ⋅ January 17, 2014

Stalking takes more commitment than following. If I implement the "stalk" feature and then the person doesn't hang on every word obsessively, it will alert you that you suck as a stalker. ;)

OneSassyLadyNKY January 17, 2014

I prefer "follow" if only because the "other site" uses "bookmarks". And you have proven from day one that PB is nothing like that other site. So continue on with the making of PB a better place to call home ♥

Love it! One quick design note--there still seems to be a lot of wasted white space around the actual entry text. For those of us who like bigger photos (and are still hung up a little on the cozy familiar look of OD) maybe a little less white space and a bit more room for the text to stretch out and opportunity to post larger pictures (kind of like how the text fills out the comment section is, if that makes sense) would be pretty awesome. Otherwise, lookin' good! Can't wait for the ad-free version! :)

simple mind MissMeg ⋅ January 18, 2014

What you call "wasted white space" I call a "design element". Personally, I love the use of white space as a design element. Just because there's space, I don't like to clutter it up. I never liked the way OD's entry text sprawled all the way across the screen - from my perspective it makes it very difficult to read and track between lines. I would always resize my browser down to a comfortable column width. Just my two cents. :)

Cat Mommy MissMeg ⋅ January 18, 2014

Totally agree with everything you've said. It would be nice if he'd expand the text area a bit more since he actually made it smaller than it was previously. No likey.

I like the follow change and the background updates. I haven't been around for a couple of months and this website is just growing and growing. I love it! Good work, sir. You are amazeballs.
