Fire and Rain in General

More rain than fire here today, although last night I went out for a walk and could smell that tell-tale sign that Autumn is fully upon us. The smell of cedar smoke in the air.

It rained almost all day today. I finally went out to buy the replacement blinds. That was easy. The hardest part was to stand there listening the overhead speaker repeatedly say “Assistance needed in the window treatment area.” Picked out what I wanted and ten minutes later I was out the door with my new blinds cut to spec.

Praying I had not fucked up the measurements.

Then I went to Shaw’s and picked up some victuals. Then proceeded to GNC.

The local GNC is always empty. I can’t figure out how they are still in business. But there are dumbasses like me who insist on buying certain vitamins at GNC. There seems to be a revolving door of help at this GNC. Last time it was a huge buff dude. The time before that was a girl who was so tiny I couldn’t imagine her ever having sex.

This time I walked in and I could see the clerk sitting in the office in the back. She said “hi” and I said “hi” and went about my shopping. She came out from the back and went behind the counter. I couldn’t find the nitric oxide I had previously purchased so I went to the counter.

Man.

She was tall. And Young. At 6‘3” I am not used to looking at women eye-to-eye. This chick had to be six foot tall. And ridiculously gorgeous. Model gorgeous.

I thought for sure she was in heels or some kind of lifts. When she came out from behind the counter. Nope. She was wearing tennies. She really was that tall.

As I was paying we joked about the “chip” thing in debit cards. Then I realized she had nothing but a thumb on her right hand.

It was seamless. It was obvious she was well used to it. She used her thumb and palm like anyone would use their hand.

Stupid hamster wheel in my head started and I wanted to ask her what had happened to her hand. But the smarter part of my brain interceded - thinking of all the really dark ways a pretty girl might lose her hand.

I don’t know what would be worse from my side of the equation. Acknowledgment or not.

Later, talking to Glenn he said “You are too wrapped around the axel about things like this. Age is just a number. And if you have a question, you should ask it. If she is six foot she can’t get a date around here. Just ask her if you can bring her a coffee next time you come in.”

Easy enough for him to say. Seeing as he is dating a 24 year old. Bastard.
