September

Faithful Place - Tana French

This is my third book in the series and I have liked each one more and more. You don’t have to read them in any kind of order. There is some overlap of characters and it is kind of neat to revisit characters that have only been peripheral in previous books.

Good As Gone - Amy Gentry

Touted as similar to “Gone Girl” and “Girl on a Train.” It was good and it had an interesting writing technique where you have 2 parallel story lines going on at the same time and they both meet at the climax. One is a present story line and the other one occurs in the past.

You Will Know Me - Megan Abbott

Another SUSPENSE novel. This one was interesting because it takes you inside the world of gymnastics. Also, you feel like you are (figuratively) underwater when you are reading the story. The author does a really good job of telling the story from the mom’s viewpoint. She is so out of the loop so you as the reader feel that same way. Everything is murky and unclear.

The Couple Next Door - Shari Lapena

Worst nightmare: very young baby gets kidnapped. I guess not my worst nightmare. Mine is more, one of my cats gets kidnapped and 3000 spiders move in.

The Lost Girls - Heather Young

This one was REALLY good. But devastating. It’s one of those books that when you figure out what is going on, you are not surprised. However, the payoff is still there because the seeds were planted throughout the book. It would be more disappointing if it didn’t happen the way you knew it was going to happen. Make sense?

Broken Harbor - Tana French

Another Tana French. I actually read the first 3 just to get to this book which had an excellent review. Even though they do not have to be read in order or even at all, I would recommend any of them. Enjoyed this one too but I think I liked the 2 before it even better.

The Perfect Girl - Gilly Macmillan

Good suspense. Likened to “Gone Girl” and “Girl on a Train” although I think they’ll say that about any suspenseful novel written by a woman.

The Version of Us - Laura Barnett

This book. It reminded me a bit of “Life After Life” but instead of the reincarnation motif it uses a parallel lives technique. It was good but I was so confused trying to remember the intricacies of every story line. Also, you have to be aware of the chapter titles because sometimes they story lines are presented in order and sometimes it jumps around. I would recommend the book but you need to keep a pictograph of all the characters and their relationships. Or you could read them linearly but the book might not be as effective. It’s kind of neat to compare the lives to one another. I don’t know. Keep notes!

2016 total: 58 books

"Mine is more, one of my cats gets kidnapped and 3000 spiders move in." AHAHAHAHA!

Oooh, the last one sounds interesting. Have you read the birthday book by the woman who wrote We Have To Talk About Kevin? Wait.

The Post-Birthday World by Lionel Shriver. Similar--kind of like Sliding Doors. I actually really liked it and it wasn't hard to follow.

Can't you read some terrible books instead? Your reviews of those are much funnier.

It's amazing how many books have either "Gone" or "Girl" in the title!
