I Haz New Car! in Life

Yesterday, Dann and i bought a brand new car. I’ve never had a brand new car before! we ended up getting a Chevrolet Trax for a decent price, paid for by a loan (but the monthly payment is good). it’s nice to have a little more space and to be higher off the ground.

so, what happened to my other car?

i had a 2002 dodge neon. it was bright yellow with black interior. i named her bumble. i bought her so i could drive to my job in the bronx from queens (otherwise it was a 2 hr ride on the train…one way…and i had difficulty getting to my graduate classes). she had a good run! i kept up with the oil changes and bought her new parts when needed.

the last 2 weeks, i brought her into the shop about 4 times. first, i was heading back from albany when she broke down. bought a new alternator, replaced it, and was on my way. a few days later back in the city, i was having difficulty starting her. bought her into the shop and replaced the battery. a few days later, she was making weird noises. lots of creaking and grinding sounds. brought her into the shop. replaced the left wheel bearing and the brakes. sounded fine when i drove away, but a few days later it started again. brought her in one more time and my mechanic couldn’t find the source. he thought it might be something loose underneath that helps support the exhaust pipe. he tightened that and told me it was time to stop putting money into the car. she was starting to go. now, if my mechanic is telling me to get a new car, you know that you don’t have much time and there is really nothing else to be done to your car.

we did our research, found chevy to be the most reliable vehicle for a decent price, went to the bank and got pre approved for the loan and checked for prices on true car. we were at the dealership yesterday for a long time (there were some address problems on dann’s end since he never changed over all of his mail to our current address from his dad’s address…) but it was a good experience. another customer ended up pulling out of a sale for our car right before we got it! we ended up getting into the price range we wanted and are happy with our purchase. oh AND i got a teacher discount!

I’ve never had a new vehicle before. it’s awesome! the car had 9 miles on it when we drove it off the lot. they even took bumble off our hands! only got $500 for her, but they were able to take her, so we didn’t have to worry about getting rid of her. i have to get used to the pedals, but I’m happy we were able to upgrade.

below is a link to what it looks like. again…have no idea how to post pictures on here. as soon as i do, i’ll post some!
