Nights in White Satin in General

Justin Hayward wrote that song when he was 19 years old. It rocks my soul every time I hear it.

When I was stationed in South Carolina I managed to drive home a few times. Once when my best friend married my girlfriend. Yep, he’s not been my best friend in a while.

It might have been that trip. I went to Roller World and met up with a girl I had been flirting with for a while. One of Gary’s ten thousand cousins. I was 19, she was 16. Total doll. We excused ourselves from the skating rink, and made out in my car. Got to second base before the boys came knocking on my car windows.

One last kiss and I was on my way back to South Carolina. And I couldn’t get that little girl out of my head for the entire 20 hours it took me to get back to Shaw AFB. For some reason “Nights in White Satin” became fused with her in my head. I was listening to a lot of Moody Blues “This Is” compilation back then.

We got rain. A ten minute thunderstorm. Not enough to take us out of fire danger. Maybe knocked some of the pollen out of the air.

The humidity has been building, so much so that it was setting off my smoke detectors. After the fifth time I finally decided to put in the air conditioners and close up the windows. After about 3 hours the humidity inside has gone from 86% to 50% and falling. It is not hot outside, but the humidity just makes everything feel clammy.

I watched the first episode of “Queen of the South.” I don’t know what I was expecting , but it looks to be a pretty awesome series. One of the few times I actually like the “fast forward through time” devices that lazy writers use too often.

Alice Braga is an attractive woman, but damn the scene when she walked into the house in a micro-mini skirt had me talking in tongues.
