Brandy, you’re a fine girl
What a good wife you would be
But my life, my lover, my lady is the sea…
Weird juxtapositions. I was out and about, getting gas and groceries. I looked at the robin’s egg blue sky with the fair weather cirrus clouds and thought what a great day it would be to be flying and the memory came to me - a fragment of a quote from long ago - that once you have been up there you never again truly belong to the earth.
Evel, the evil iPod randomed up this song and I thought that no one who has ever spent time at sea can ever actually belong to the land again. Don’t tell me that evil little plastic and metal rectangle isn’t sentient.
I found a job on LL Bean’s website. I might be a little under qualified but I will apply anyway. Applying for jobs I am over qualified for hasn’t yielded anything. It is a financial analyst position that requires knowledge of a bunch of reporting software I have never heard of. But I am a quick study when it comes to software. There are probably YouTube tutorials or Khan Academy classes I can peruse to at least be able to speak intelligently about the tools.
Hilariously, Maine is suffering from a lifeguard shortage. College kids aren’t willing to work for 17 bucks an hour with a guaranteed 40 hour workweek. Apparently sounds too much like work. Sounds like paradise to me.
If I had known I might have started working that way. I would be hard pressed to pass the entry swim. A mile of alternating swim strokes. I am good with breast stroke, back stroke, side stroke, and modified backstroke. But my crawl sucks. Don’t even mention butterfly - my forte long, long ago. I am pretty sure I couldn’t haul my upper body out of the water for more than three strokes. I found it exhausting when I was 16.
Maybe next summer, if I start preparing now.
I am waiting for my barber to come back from lunch. Being the sole proprietor and only employee she is pretty liberal with granting herself long lunches and time off. Usually by 2pm she is back in the studio.
Then. Yep, then I am launching down to the beach. With any luck lobster guy is open for business. So supper will be two lobstrosities and a couple ears of corn.
With any luck there will also be a beach babe or two at Popham.
A man can dream.
