Dickers never saw the attack coming. Gerty had hit him in the back of the head with one of her knife hilts before shoving him to the ground. Face down Dicker’s has no idea who the predator was standing over him in his apartment. Regardless, Dicker’s no fighter especially against a foe armed with blades of steel.
Gerty dropped all her weight on to Dickers, landing on her knees, pinning him to the floor. Dicker’s grunted out most of his air, still confused from the hit on the head. Gerty leans forward and puts her lips to his ears and scraps both knife blades across the hardwood floor. In a baby voice she whispers,

“bouncy bouncy bouncy ball”

Gerty raises the blades and slams both down hard one on each side of Dickers head.

“Mr. Dickers had a fall”

Gerty yanks the blades out of the floor and seethes,

“first your ears and then your balls

bouncy bouncy fucking ball.”

Gerty grabs Dickers by an ear and he lets out a scream.

“Shut it fucker.....

Gerty stops mid sentence and lays her eyes on a calico cat she hadn’t noticed looking at her from under the kitchen table. Clearly the cat is in fear by the surprising turn of events but not hiding from view. Gerty remains kneeling on Dickers back who has got his protests of pain down to whimpers.

Gerty eyes seem to glaze over as she looks at the cat and loosens her grip on Dicker’s ear.

“You got a kitty cat?”

Dicker’s confused by the turn of events only give Gerty a “what?”.

“A kitty cat…you have a kitty cat. I like kitty cats. Do you like kitty cats Mr. Dickers?”

Dickers finally has the clarity to know this is a conversation needing answers if he has any hope to live.

“Yes, Francis is her name. I like my cat very much.”

Dickers remained face down and did not want the intruder to think he has seen anything that would make her feel like he could identify her.
Gerty slowly spoke again,

“Daddio’s and cats....my dad hated cats....said mom and me couldn’t have them…said he was allergic....lied…daddio’s lie…“

There was a long silence which Dickers had no intention of breaking. Finally Gerty spoke again.

“Do you lie Mr. Dickers?”

“No Miss, I love my cat.”

Suddenly the weight was off his back and Dickers could hear the intruder shuffling about at his feet.

‘What do you know Mr. Dickers…what do you know?”

As quickly as she was gone Gerty pounced back on Dickers this time laying flat on him him belly to back. Worse yet, a knife gleamed by his head again although Gerty just held it close. She didn’t seem angry.

“Do I need to make you bleed to make a point or was this a big misunderstanding Mr. Dickers lover of kitty cats?”

Gerty didn’t wait for an answer, got up and walked to the door. As she turned the knob she said,

“Your kitty looks hungry Mr. Dickers…and by the way I suggest you do not want anymore of my attention. This should stay our little secret. Right Mr. Dickers?”

Gerty walked out of the apartment only to be greeted by Daryl, one of the neighbors who heard her screaming at Dickers. Curiosity kept Daryl loitering in the hall to find out what lady would ever go and play rough with his weird neighbor Dicker’s. Daryl was surprised to see a young, pretty girl come out of the apartment. “Hooker” was what came to mind as the only plausible explanation for being in Dicker’s place.

“Hey little lady, now that your done with him you want to experience a real man?”

Gerty glanced at the stranger and gave him one of her brightest of smiles and replied,

“I sure do daddio.”

Before Daryl understood what was happening Gerty spun on one foot bringing a roundhouse to Daryl’s throat slashing deep across his shoulder blade and the left side of his neck. Blood swelled from the cut as Daryl staggered backwards.
Gerty lunged again embedding the other knife deep into Daryl’s eye socket twisting deep as though digging for his brain. Daryl could only gargle in his own blood as his throat filled with dark red phlegm and bubbled out of his slashed esophagus.

Gerty came nose to nose with the dying man and whispered,

bouncy bouncy bouncy ball......
going to die right in the hall
one thing that you gotta know
I don’t fuck no daddio.....
