Friday's doings and pics snapped Sat AM in Day to day life from a woman that turned 60 in Oct 2014 and who lives on a farm and Retired on January 2, 2016. I plan to do more sewing, work outside in the yard and just enjoy my retirement.

Yesterday I felt much MUCH better physically. Maybe to much as I hurt most of the night. Hum. Too old for this? I think not, just out of shape. I keep waiting for my body to adjust but it isn’t cooperating this Spring. Arthritis is in high gear and the dampness/rain probably doesn’t help. I worry about my future, but not much I can do about it except to try and stay as active as I can and push myself to continue forth.

Yesterday I planted more stuff. I’m finally down to 5 tomato plants, 2 petunias, and 6 or 7 other flowers and one succulent that I keep forgetting about that needs to be planted.

I did some trimming around my “garden” areas and finally couldn’t stand it longer and got to mowing. I thought it was going to rain later in the evening and rain is predicted for the rest of the week so I just felt I had to mow. It does look better to me. It sure took me a long time to get things done yesterday and when I think about what was completed, I need to pick up the pace or something. If I didn’t take so much time deciding where to plant what, I’d have been done days ago. I’m still contemplating on how to mulch the flower bed in front of the house where the double shepherd’s hook is located. I took some pictures this morning and will copy and paste the link if you’re interested in them. My corn doesn’t seem to be getting any taller, but then again, I’m not very patient. I think I’m going to move my cucumbers as they don’t seem to be growing much more either. Maybe it is because it has been cool and rainy and overcast, however, I want to see growth. lol

Did have a message on my house phone when I finished mowing from J’s specialist’s office but it was too late to reach anyone. Had another message from someone wanting to do business with the Workshop but thinks that the Mgr’s quote for the job is too much. Ha!! He can find someone else to do it cheaper. I did return his call and he was in the middle of something so he is going to call me today. I’m sure he will as he is wanting work done cheaper than the quote, so I’m sure he’ll try to persuade and convince me that this would be good for the Workshop. However, we have to try and make a bit of profit. I believe the previous Workshop had underbid and that is why they are no longer doing it. HIS story is that he pulled his business from them, but that is not what the other Workshop has told us. I DETEST someone trying to take advantage of the mentally and physically handicapped and if he can find non-handicapped persons to do this mission for bid quoted, then by all means he should do it. Our price was doubled what the other WS was charging him, and we’re talking cents, not dollars. With that said, he told me last night that he was have to raise the price of what he sells the items from $5.99 to $9.99. Math isn’t my strong point, however, that is just ridiculous! I wish I knew the brand of the gizmo’s he was using to create a product so I could look up what he pays for the supplies. I may ask him today. He wants to make a nice profit, and the Workshop just needs to make a profit. What is wrong with people these days. Oh hell, it has been that way toward the handicapped for eons. Now the Fed Gov’t wants to force them into the regular work force. I will NOT get on my soap box, other than to say, if that was possible, feasible, available, there would never have been reason for the Workshops to begin with many years ago. Ok. I’m done.

Here are the pictures from this morning. I snapped a couple of the hummers too and they are there. If you have questions just ask.

Love your garden.

When people ask me to do a job for less, I mentally write them off. I'd tell the guy you've given him your best price and if he can do it elsewhere, you understand. When he talks about raising his prices, don't answer or argue. It has nothing to do with the negotiation. It is being used for emotional blackmail. My question: do you REALLY want to deal with this guy at all? Of course, since I don't know the details, it may be that you must deal with him. I'd draw a hard line with him and remind him that you aren't in the business of losing money.

I agree with ConnieK, find someone else to deal with if you can and your gardens are beautiful. So much further along. I think this week, I need to get going on my flower beds. It's gorgeous and hot today but I have no time to work outside. :(

tell me about the dog sleeping on your patio. hate it when people try to take advantage of anyone, let alone those that are handicapped. some of them can be in the regular work force. there are several at my favorite grocery store. others cannot. take care,

That is Polka Dot. He's a cross between a Mastiff and American Bulldog. He's my protector down here. A good one too as when he barks and runs toward you, you stop. He is the only pet I have left down here. My Big Kitty passed over the winter and the 3-legged boarder collie disappeared. All my animals are usually strays that stay.

i knew he was a big boy. his name makes me laugh! how did he get his name? there's got to be a story behind polka dot! yeah, he's gonna stop me from moving any direction but backwards. take care,

When he showed up here a couple of years ago, he was just a young dog and he had what Owen called Polka Dots on his sides. So, Polka Dot became his name. Sounded funny then and even more so since he grew into his feet.

okay, little kids name animals the oddest things. do you have a better photo of him? take care,

Yes somewhere, but I will take a new picture him tomorrow and include it with my next entry or the one after.

Oh and Owen is my oldest grandson. He is A's son. And come to think of it, it has been over 3 yrs since Polka Dot appeared. He does NOT like many men. He likes the boys in my family and he loves my Dad. He isn't happy when my brother comes by, which he doesn't anymore. lol Nor any male strangers and some female strangers. He is a very good protector.

I have always heard that Goodwill takes advantage of the employees they get from workshop type places. Sad that some businesses and organizations are not really as benevolent as they want people to believe.
